Shinjuku City will open Special Support Classes for Autism and Emotional Disabilities at Tenjin Elementary School and Shinjuku Junior High School in April 2027 (Reiwa 9), and at Tsurumaki Elementary School in April 2028 (Reiwa 10). These classes serve students without intellectual disabilities who have autism or selective mutism, offering instruction in small groups of up to eight students per class. The school zone covers all of Shinjuku City, and elementary students must be escorted to and from school by a guardian on foot or via public transit.
